Decadentia!
Immortale!
Multi phylti corti rocci!
Nothing- absolutely nothing- is too much in the Venusberg, where the greatest Minnesänger of all time, Heinrich Tannhäuser, has sought refuge in order to leave worldly banality behind. But after years of boundless pleasure, the great enjoyment has become too much for him.
Tannhäuser wants to leave, back to the daylight, the fresh morning dew, and the world where he can hear the birds sing. His beloved hostess Venus pulls out every emotional and vocal stop to keep him with her, but when all her attempts fail, she curses her unfaithful lover.
Back in the world, the once-lost Minnesänger is warmly welcomed by his old friends. And even the King’s daughter has been longing for him all these years.
But the question is: will Tannhäuser ever be able to find happiness again among his fellow human beings?
Come watch and listen to what might just be Richard Wagner’s best opera- or at least his most delicious one!
