Reaching Out from the Hood

-about locally embedded neighbourhood spaces-

On Friday, April 24, urban researcher Karin Christof and artist Martijn Huting engage in a conversation about the city, autonomy, solidarity and collective spaces.

Karin Christof is a researcher and curator. 

In her PhD thesis Citizen Professionals – Reclaiming Collective Spaces, she explores socio-cultural questions within the built environment, with particular attention to urban governance, civic initiatives, and the role of residents. Trained as an architect and artist in Vienna, Amsterdam, and London, she has been active in the visual arts and architecture since 2000. She has collaborated with organizations such as the Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam, BAK Basecamp for Tactical Imaginaries, DesignArbeid, and the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam.

Martijn Huting trained as an architect and works as a visual artist and lecturer in urban design. In his practice All that is solid melts into air, he creates drawings and collages rich with references to art history, literature, and philosophy. Next to that he teaches students and organizes salons and lectures in which stories, disciplines and artworks become interwoven.
