A CULTURAL 🫀 FOR THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Supermercator has long been the under-the-radar living room of Mercatorplein; a cultural meeting place where people come together to enjoy music, poetry, film, art, debate and all kinds of glorious cross-pollination. Through the years we have been reluctant to become either commercial or conceptual, as we feel that there are few spaces left in the city that are genuinely open to any kind of experiment and collaboration.
In order to keep Supermercator a place of the people and make it sustainable for a long time to come, we want turn our space into a daily café serving wholesome breakfasts and lunches.Â
We want to build a diverse and thoughtfully run kitchen where everyone feels welcome, with an affordable daily meal for those on a tight budget, alongside a varied menu for those who want to explore a little more.
This kitchen will be the foundation of our daily café, community dinners and in-house shop of homemade products- and the backbone that will allow us to run our cultural events as broad and accessible as we enjoy them to be and feel is needed.
We cannot do it alone. To turn this hopeful dream into a lasting reality we need your support. Let's build Café Supermercator together, as it is more than a physical space; it is a collective effort to bring people together and nurture connection, expression and creativity, one meal, one conversation and one project at a time.
Your contribution can help us make this possible.Â
Together we can create a place where everyone feels welcome, where people discover eachother, share their talents and grow together.
On October 23rd we are launching our crowdfundingcampaign in collaboration with Voor De Kunst's City, Company and Crowd programme with the premiere of our campaign film featuring Ezra van Hamelen and a back-to-back vinyl-set by Radikal Rupert and Abelix.Â
