This is a mindwhirling cinematic experience from one of the masters of the Polish film school, Mr. Wojciech Has. Where as the Polish Film School Movement was mostly inspired by Italian neorealism, Has always went his own way and gave his own indistinguishable touch to his movies. 

The Hourglass Sanatorium is a surreal journey into the subconscious. Feeling a bit like Alice in Wonderland sometimes. Basically it’s the story of a man that visits his father in a mystical sanatorium where time doesn’t seem to follow the normal rules….

It’s amazing how people in the west keep associating former East Block countries with bleakness and ugliness while in fact so much beauty is to be discovered here. These countries in fact had a really rich culture and the boredom of communism pushed people to actually be more creative in the cultural field. 

In short, this movie is just awesome; amazing cinematography, beautiful sets and very 70’s like psychedelic scenes, yet almost never shown anywhere. Skip magic mushrooms and make this magical journey together with us!
